Visit to Cueva de Valporquero

I was sick all week last week, so I wasn't able to go to school. I get pretty lonely when that happens, but I was able to finish up a handwork project I was working on. In the meantime, I wasn't planning to go on the field trip with my class this weekend, but I woke up feeling better on Saturday morning, so I decided to join them. We went to Cueva de Valporquero, a cave full of stalactites and stalagmites. It was beautiful! I've never been in a cave before, so I was really impressed. It was immense, profound, and had numerous corridors throughout. Water runs through the cave, so the formations will continue to change over the years.

One of the Many Staircases Throughout the Cave

There were stairs all over the place, but my classmates were determined to let me see as much of the cave as possible. It was a view worth seeing, for sure. I was in awe. The cave had been lit with spotlights everywhere, so you could enjoy it without headlamps or anything, but unfortunately, they have yet to install elevators. It would be nice! I wasn't able to take very many pictures as I was focused on dealing with stairs and enjoying the view, but you can trust me when I say it was spectacular.

The drive home was beautiful too. It was a cold, misty morning, and the road to and from the cave was very windy and tight. I did better on the way down than the way up, but my motion sickness was thankfully not too bad either way. The bus had to go very slowly and take up both lanes on many of the tight corners, so it was all a little dizzying.

Thankfully, I had brought along my little turtle pillow to rest on. I don't look great in this picture because I haven't felt well with the storms this week, but I showed up and had the best time I could, and that's what matters. It was all in all a good time, and I'm really happy that I was able to go.

Oh, and here's the little dolly I finished making while I was unwell this week.

Crocheted Dolly

See, sometimes downtime can become something beautiful to. One of my friends back in Utah asked if I'd make this for his daughter, and I was happy to do so. The dolly turned out very cute and very American, I think!
